Zitatshowcases a variety of stylistic decisions to address the honesty and sincere emotion of many personal situations they have experienced to this point, connecting the listener immediately to the artwork and passion within the confines of this album. The gushing ’emotions on the sleeve’ approach leaves nothing for the imagination; as the guts spill, truth is spoken through the pained lyrics split primarily by Billy Zee and Tristan Winkler

that I’ll die for what I believe in. And that’s what makes me a martyr

Where were you the times I needed you most?" in u.a. Gallows Run mehr als gut passen.
Bryan im Interview zu Martyr: A Recital of Self-Destruction :
ZitatAlles anzeigenAll the lyrics are definitely tied to an emotional experience, dealing with quite a few life issues.
We really try to do our best to give an honest depth to the lyrics that doesn’t come across as super cheesy, yet still be potent.
Billy: Definitely a bunch of the songs are tied to something in our lives or things we have seen in friends lives, for instance:
“Goodnight” – addresses repressed personal thoughts about being afraid to die – the lyrics were written at practice the one day and we just went with them. Another in your face topic.
-“Noca” – Its about being shut off from the world – a lot of people skip out on “looking at yourself at some point” or self-reflection, but you can’t change the world around you unless you change.
-“11:19” and “Survivor’s Guilt” call out a vulnerability we as members have never had in other bands – both songs have a cohesive and developed sound.
-“Day One” – “I Wanna rip you apart / I wanna keep you all to myself” – Definitely deals with a “Stockholm syndrome” of sorts from previous relationships.
-Recording “Martyr” it just went smooth, but we knew that something special was missing, so Tristan and I went to the mic and just laid down the spoken word portion which was a very emotional process. Honestly it came out so powerful.
-“I Felt Haunted” – Came from the idea of having the trip of a lifetime taken away, or a missed opportunity – to simplify it.
Basically the record was a confluence of self-reflection, revisiting the personal view of the world, discussing challenging issues such as mental illness / drug addiction / toxic relationships, and simply admitting truth.
Zitat“There is a lot of self-reflection built into the album along with our everchanging perspective of the world around us. Life is so much more than feeling sorry for yourself – we don’t have our shit together either, but at least we are still trying to move forward and (we) feel like that shows through on this record….“
